What does Jesus think?

You Need To Know Why They Killed Jesus ~ Pt. 3

Jesus’ voluntary1 death and resurrection are the centerpiece and foundation of Christianity.2 But why did they kill Him? The answer has everything to do with how our faith is practiced.

Part 3. National Security.

What are we willing to sacrifice for national security? Are we willing to kill Jesus for it?

Jesus and His popularity put the leaders of Israel sorely between a rock and a hard place. He was not the first Galilean with Messianic claims. Before Him was a nationalist named Judas,3 who led a revolt against the Romans. Before Judas was a rebel named Theudas.4 Both failed and brought fierce retribution upon themselves and their fellow Israelites.

The chief priests and Pharisees were understandably afraid for their country. How many rebellions would Rome endure before they destroyed the Israelites completely? Jesus was a threat to national security. They had to get rid of Him.5

Is your country more important to you than Jesus?

Are you more concerned with national security than you are living a Christ-filled life?

If you are a Christian, then no country on earth is your homeland.6 Your citizenship is in heaven.7

The Pharisees wanted political security and sent Christ to die. How many of us, for the sake of security, neglect the life of Christ in us?8

What results do we want? The feeling of safety? Or a life characterized by love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control?9

If Jesus is our Messiah, the choice is clear.
